Purdue 2009 Regional Conference

red_bullet.GIF On March 28th-29th, SPUSA's Purdue chapter will be sponsoring a regional conference on "Health care and Humanity: Solutions for Today and Tomorrow”. (Keynote speaker to be announced shortly.)

 

2009 Citizen Science Paper Competition

red_bullet.GIF Youth ages 13-26 are invited to submit original scientific research or position papers to the Citizen Science Technical Board for the 2009 Citizen Science paper competition! Winners will, in addition to publication, have the chance to present their work at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UN CSD), convening at the United Nations Headquarters (NYC) from May 4-15, 2009.

Please submit your paper to the Citizen Science Technical Board. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until February 10, 2009. Please direct all paper submissions and questions to  CitizenScience@SustainUS. org . Wanted: Student Session Aides for 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting

red_bullet.GIF Attend the 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting (Feburary 12-16th, Chicago) for free by volunteering as a session aide. Some volunteers also receive a free subscription to Science Online. For more information click here.

More information on the meeting: The meeting's theme - Our Planet and Its Life: Origins and Futures - recognizes that 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. New understanding of the processes that fascinated Darwin continues to be the focus of intense research 150 years later. Indeed every discipline can demonstrate its own unique evolutionary path and speculate on where it may lead. Additional information on registration can be found here. 

 

2009 Campus Progress Southern Regional Conference

red_bullet.GIF  Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now! will be keynote speaker for the conference. This is Campus Progress's first ever Southern Regional Conference. It will be held at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, from February 6-8, 2009. This event will bring together over 200 of the brightest students and young people, including campus organizers, bloggers and journalists from all over the South, for three days of networking, training, and skills-building. The application deadline is Tuesday, February 3, 2009.

SMRC Global Development Internship

red_bullet.GIF  Students at are invited to join Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC) in South Africa or Kenya on the Global Development Internship, an experiential learning program during the summer of 2009 for students to identify and develop sustainable solutions to health and education in developing communities in those countries. Students will undergo a comprehensive training program on international development and social entrepreneurship and will have the opportunity to partner with a local community member to develop a project of their own.
