The Hague, Netherlands, 15-16 April 2009 Back to the Future: Core Dimensions of Nuclear Power and Nuclear Weapons

On the occasion of the 58th Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs “Justice, Peace and Nuclear Disarmament”, International Student/Young Pugwash (ISYP) invites students and young scholars from around the world to participate in an international conference that will address, from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective, the core dimensions of nuclear power and nuclear weapons at the dawn of the twenty-first century.

The organizers of the 2009 ISYP Conference invite both members and non-members of the International Student/Young Pugwash network to submit their applications to participate in this event. Applicants to the conference are required to submit a paper abstract (and subsequent paper) dealing with a topic that falls into at least one of the five topics mentioned in the description found on www.spusa.orh and by clicking the below link. The 400th anniversary of Galileo’s development of the refracting telescope that jump-started Earth-bound exploration of the solar system....The COPUS network—it stands for “Coalition on the Public Understanding of Science”—which has organized the “Year of Science 2009” initiative to connect science-related events across the country and raise awareness about the nature of science and its importance to policy and our future.

ISSCR Educational Video Competition

red_bullet.GIF Participate in the first International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) Educational Video Competition.What does the public need to know about the science behind stem cells?  Rally your lab to participate in the first-ever ISSCR Educational Video Competition – explain the fundamentals of stem cells by creating an engaging and educational short video suitable for a high school (secondary school) audience. SMRC Global Development Internship

red_bullet.GIF  Students at are invited to join Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC) in South Africa or Kenya on the Global Development Internship, an experiential learning program during the summer of 2009 for students to identify and develop sustainable solutions to health and education in developing communities in those countries. Students will undergo a comprehensive training program on international development and social entrepreneurship and will have the opportunity to partner with a local community member to develop a project of their own.
